In the event of the weather being inclement, there are other places to visit and enjoy.
Beaches in the area are stunning and often empty, so you can stroll along enjoying the pleasure of your own company amid dramatic scenery.
- Errigal Mountain - Donegal’s highest peak can be seen from Nairin beach and many places in the locality. It is a beautiful drive through rough and stony terrain which proudly shows off our amazing Donegal scenery.
- The Kilclooney Dolmen, a portal tomb is 6km from Ardara.
- Iniskeel Island is just off the beautiful Blue Flag Nairin Beach, it can be walked to twice daily at low tide. Here there are magnificent examples of ancient cross slab stones.
- The road from Portnoo to Rosbeg is peppered with lakes including, Lough Doon on which the primitive Doon Fort stands.
- The Owenea Standing Stone, resides beside the bridge over the Owenea river – one of the best Salmon fishing rivers in the Ireland.
- On the way to the Spectacular caves at Maghera, you pass the impressive waterfall ‘Easaranca’ - the wrinkled waterfall.
- From the village of Ardara the road up the hill to Glencolmcille snakes up the beautiful Glengesh Pass locally known as ‘The S’. The view is breathtaking as is the drive over the mountain top to Glencolmcille, amazing for its ruggedness and isolation.
- Traditional Irish music is a feature of the pub scene in Ardara and can be enjoyed every evening in a friendly atmosphere with local hospitality.

The Donegal coastal area is famous for whale, dolphin and porpoise spotting as well as the outstanding natural beauty of the area.
While sightings of these wonderful creatures can never be guaranteed as they range widely. There is always a chance of spotting them and the incidence of their appearance is increasing.
- Bird Watching around Dowros Bay.
Co. Donegal is one of the most important sites in Europe for birds, cliff nesting throughout the year and also for over wintering ducks .
Our high cliff landscape provides an ideal habitat for a wide range of sea birds. The cliffs of Slieve a Tuohey have some of the largest mainland colonies of sea birds in Ireland.
Breeding sea birds include gannets, guillemots, puffins, fulmars and kittiwakes.
